TOUR GUIDES NEEDED FOR CUTTING EDGE AUGMENTED REALITY TOUR IN JUNEAU     

Treadwell: Alaska’s Lost Mine is a new tour that operates on the Treadwell Historic Trail near Sandy Beach on Douglas Island. We use augmented reality to bring the Treadwell ruins to life as they existed during Treadwell’s boom town days from 1880-1917. Tour attendees will be provided with an iPad (10th Gen) to use on the tour to activate each augmented reality story. As the Tour Guide, your job will be to not just teach attendees how to use the software and hardware, but to tell the story of Treadwell as visitors move between each of the eleven stops. Guides will not be responsible for transportation or collecting money. Guides will be responsible for their own transportation to the tour site ahead of guest arrival, leading the group through the sites in an appropriate time while being a steward of the area and helping the guests to do the same, and getting all guests back to the departure site by the end of their tours scheduled time. 

You’re the perfect fit if you are:

• Charismatic: You will be provided with a set of facts to use during your tour narrative, but your delivery and storytelling prowess is just as important

• Interested in augmented reality technology: We have built eleven full scale AR models that illustrate how the mine town operated and what Treadwell looked like when it was operational. These models will be shown using GPS proximity pins and have been developed using cutting edge technology. Your interest in this type of experience is not just important for app troubleshooting, but because we expect that many visitors will be asking questions about how the models were created and the experience was developed. 

• Able to walk 2-5 miles a day: There will be between 2-4 tours offered daily, with each lasting roughly 90min. While the trail itself is only .75 miles long and is mostly on flat ground, being able to physically handle multiple tours a day is important. 

Operational Details:

• This is a seasonal job that runs from 5/1/24 - 10/1/24 

• We have both part time and full time roles available (hours will vary slightly based on tour bookings)

• Guides will be provided with Patagonia rain shells to stay dry

• Hourly wages ranging from $25-$28. Guides that stay onboard for the entire season will receive a bonus based on a percentage of how many total guests they guided.
